All students will follow a course directed by the requirements of the National Curriculum. Students’ work will be assessed by continuous teacher assessment and end of course examinations.
GCSE - K4 (Y10-11)
Students will follow an integrated course designed to develop their skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Our aim is to ensure that all students leave college as confident communicators, fully prepared for adult life.
Students enjoy the opportunity to study Literature and receive this additional examination qualification.
English Coursework is worth 30% for Literature and 40% for English. Whenever possible, we organise theatre trips to enhance students’ understanding of texts to be studied.
ICT is also used to deliver aspects of the curriculum using our 4 classrooms with interactive smartboards. Students can present their coursework using word-processing and desktop publishing software BUT one piece must be handwritten to assess handwriting skills.
GCSE Entry Level
A small group of students may be entered for this qualification if it is more suited to their ability. Students compete several assignments during the course and complete some tasks under exam conditions.
