Welcome to the ICT Department!

At Shelfield we have a dynamic group of six, full-time staff, with a wide range of experience both in industry and education, who deliver courses tailored to the individual student. The use of online resources and individual learning programmes allows all students to meet or exceed their potential.

Students have access to six dedicated computer suites, one of which also contains a lab for delivering CISCO courses. Students use digital cameras, video cameras and sound recording equipment and have access to colour printers and interactive white boards.

ICT is a college wide resource. Each classroom has at least one computer. Maths, P.E., Science, English, Modern Languages, Business Studies and the Success Centre have computer rooms of their own, with clusters in Leisure and Tourism, Health & Social Care, Technology, the college Library and the Sixth Form Centre. The ICT department encourage and support staff and students’ work throughout the college.

All Key Stage 3 students follow a course designed to build their confidence in ICT and gain skills in using a wide range of software and equipment. Key Stage 4 students can opt for the new OCR National Certificate course, at either one or four GCSE equivalent. A group of students improve their expertise through the Key Skills programme. Students in Key Stage 5 take an Applied GCE in ICT and can take an IPRO course in Systems Installation, which contains the ability to pass CISCO CCNA.

ICT rooms are available to students at lunchtimes and after school for coursework and general improvements in their ICT skills. We encourage extensive use of the Internet and expect students to take a responsible attitude when using it. The college has adopted an Acceptable Use Policy, to be agreed by parents and students, to support its safe and effective use.
