The Mathematics Staff

The mathematics department consists of 12 enthusiastic, motivated and professional members of staff who work effectively together as a team ensure all Shelfield Sports and Community College students achieve their full potential within Mathematics.

The Mathematics Department:

Mathematics Facilities

The mathematics Department has eight specialized classrooms. These consist of:

  • Four rooms with interactive whiteboard facilities
  • Three rooms with Projectors
  • One computer suite with twenty four computers.

All students at Shelfield Sports and Community College have access to these facilities within their Mathematics lessons.

The Mathematics Department values the importance of learning styles. Every Mathematics lesson will endeavor to address Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic learning styles.

The Mathematics Department works closely with the Numeracy Advisor of Walsall Education Authority.

Courses in Mathematics

  • Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)
    Students will study Number, Algebra, Shape, Space and Measures and Handling Data. At the end of Year 9, students will site SAT's papers to establish what levels they are working at.

  • Key Stage 4 (Year 10 and 11)
    Students will study GCSE Mathematics. They will follow the new two tier system - Higher and Foundation.

  • Key Stage 5 (Year 12 and 13)
    The following courses are available:
    Pure 1
    Pure 2
    Pure 3
    Pure 4
    Mechanics 1
    Mechanics 2
