Key Stage 3

The programme of study involves:

Year 7

- What is the importance of RE/What skills are used? (if you like eating pizza, pasta and curry then this is the topic for you!)
- The story of Moses and the Exodus (how jews re-live their history when they celebrate the festival of Pesach)
- Buddhism "what is ultimate happiness?" (Materialism, meditation, we go on a trip to the Buddhist center in Derby)
- Rites of passage (Hinduism and Judaism, we study both, marriage and death, this may be subject to change.)

Year 8
- Worship in Hinduism (the pupils get to put their creative skills to the test by creating their own god mask! We explore the Hindu gods and the temple and have a chance to act out Puja worship for those who like drama.)
- Family life - Are Christian teachings relevant in today's world? Pupils will speed date stars to find out how devoted they are to their families! Pupils learn how to analyze biblical quotes.
- Religious diversity.
- Jesus (Who was he? What did he do? His teachings? Jesus' Temptations and your own! Can you resist a Cadbury's chocolate éclair?

Year 9
- Is there an answer to ultimate questions? Pupils will engage in discussions and explore famous arguments to explore this philosophical journey.
- Miracles- are they caused by God, Luck or Coincidence?
- Project work on a topic of your choice that has interested you this year. This encourages pupils to be an independent learner.

Key Stage 4

In years 10 and 11 pupils follow a new course called philosophy and ethics. This provides pupils with the chance to explore their own views as well as Christian views and areas including:

- Religion and Medical Ethics (Abortion, Euthanasia, suicide, fertility treatment).
- Good and Evil (god and devil, moral code, Christian responses to the problem of evil.)
- Religion and equality (Martin Luther King, women's role in the church and the family).
- Death and the afterlife (heaven and hell, spirits, what happens to us when we die?)
